What do you do with the body of the duck who died?

I don't know how to tube feed - how do you do it. When it's been 36 hours of flopping around and eye discharge and labored breathing, do you think there is hope that he can heal? Last night I was still hopeful, but now that he is refusing food and water and more listless, I'm wondering if this much time means he can't get better.

@casportpony , has made several informational threads regarding Tube Feeding, you should give them all a read.

As far as your question, it's a toss up, but I will comment and say that I've saved several birds that were probably worse than yours. Two most important things, are supplemental heat, and fluids, once the bird has had time to warm up, you can give some fluids, and after the bird has been hydrated somewhat (starts pooping) you can start providing her nutritionally with Parrot baby feeding formula.

If you want a shopping cart list, you'll need a large syringe (60ml). Parrot baby feeding formula, I use kaytee brand. A scale. And lastly some tubing, I would try a medical store or pharmacy first, and look for a red rubber catheter, but if you can't find that, you can use aquarium tubing, but it is important the tip be melted down until smooth or damage to the esophagus or crop may occur.

re are multiple options. Some bury them, some cremate them, some send them to a lab to see what they died from, where we are, we tend to (depending on the size of the bird) put them on the compost pile or use them as bait for the coyotes

We lost three to raccoons a few months ago. It was a horrible mess and very tragic. We buried them and my toddlers helped me paint a rock. If you are emotionally attached, burying them is fine. I don't really know what else you'd do. What do large hatcheries do?

large hatcheries kill males as babies for absolutely no reason. one of the many reasons you shouldn’t support them, and should adopt instead 😢

That's terrible! I just meant, what do they do with the dead duck bodies? I wasn't clear on if the person who posted this was sentimental or if he just wanted information on general duck removal.

Well... I know some of them grind them up whole for cat/dog food.

This wouldn't work for sick ones though. At least I hope. I'm quite repulsed by the entire thing.

We compost or cremate them ourselves. Some people squirm at the idea, but in my mind I don't see how it's any worse than letting them rot in a hole.
