You treat it like the valuable asset that it is then use it to enrich the fertility of your soil. The brooder bedding I put around my blueberries over the winter did wonders for their appearance. Doing a lot for my black berries as well and I'm hoping my fig trees too.
For anything that you will likely be eating within a few months, especially if it grows low to the ground and is eaten raw, then you ought to spread the manure before it is planted or over the winter. At least 90 days before you are going to harvest. Remember that poultry manure is fairly hot so the more pure it is (as in the less bedding or litter) the thinner you apply it.
