What do YOU do with the poop?

We have always used it in our vegetable garden after letting it age for a bit. In the winter I would put the poo and straw into black plastic bags, with some air holes punched in them, for fermentation and use it the next spring. Worked good, and will do it again when my birds come in May.

I use ti in my garden and to fill in low areas of my yard. I spread it into the low area and then throw grass seed on it. My garden is all raised beds to I can fill in quite a bit, cover it wi/ soil and plant.

last fall I put half in the compost pile and the other half in the garden to sit over the winder. then I started tilling it this spring and my garden is full of worms!! yay, love worms for the garden!! I have lots more to go to the compost mound from the brooders inside now that need a cleaning. I don't know if I will have enough to share, or honestly if I want to even give any up. this stuff is gold!

Our coop is next to the compost box. We just scoop it out and toss it in, then use it in the garden. I'll have to take some pictures of my azaleas this year. They've never been so beautiful! Oh, and also the dogs eat the poop if I'm not watching...sometimes even if I am. Bleh.

I scrape the poop board and put it in the composter. I have the rotating kind, so once it's full, I close it up and rotate it every day for @3 weeks (a little longer in the winter), and voila - compost. Then it goes into the pile for when I'm ready to use it. Before chickens, it took FOREVER to get good compost. Now, that puppy cooks up in no time! Gotta love it!

In the late fall I clean out the whole coop and cover the next year's garden with it. With the poop board and several inches of shavings on the floor, it only needs cleaned out completely once a year (right before winter, when they will be spending more time in there).

Wood shavings take long time to decompose and will rob nitrogen if not decomposed. I use native desert grass for coop litter because I have acres of it. The chickens pulverize it and compost it all.

I've been composting ours. I must also say that our compost WORKS now that we've had chickens. I really struggled with composted BC (before chickens) in our arid climate. Now, it's a breeze.

We keep two compost piles - one 'new', and one 'old'. I keep adding to the 'new' pile with kitchen scraps, yard waste, and coop cleanings until it's big enough. I consistently turn both old and new piles and after a few months, the 'old' pile is ready for the garden, so I clear it out and start another 'new' pile. So far so good

I have a large area behind my coop that I spread it and the chickens love to scratch at it. It breaks down over time and the shrubs and such along the fence line around the coop love it.
