What do you do with your chickens????

Quote:
Same here. I didn't get my first 8 for eggs, but for free fertilizer I don't have to carry in big bags from some garden center, for bug reduction, and only incidentally for their eggs. They will still produce fertilizer and still eat bugs, so when the girls stop laying eggs some time in the future, I may put up an Elderly Chicken Retirement Home sign.

My original crew will be two years old next month, and they're laying just fine. (There are plenty of younger gals laying eggs, too.)

Oh, and they will still make me smile and laugh with their antics. This is their Forever Home.

we named our girls, and they come when we call there names, kulling them will be hard or imposible, but again its all going to depend on room and production. I may end up never kulling, our girls are family, they eat from our hands and sit on our laps. if my kids knew I was even thinking of getting rid of them after 2 years I would face a firing squad LOL> SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have 11 older hens that are pets most of them are 3 years old and some are older (one I think is 8). They lay fairly well, around 5-7 eggs a day, and are almost as good as guineas at eating pests. I usually let them free range so they'll live happy lives until something catches them.
