Our landfill charges for garbage but recycling is free.

Not here, there's always been a nominal fee, but it's doubled in the past couple years.

Do any of you worry about handling birds that might have been killed by animals carrying rabies?

Excellent question. I haven't because we haven't had a predator attack yet (I hope I didn't just curse myself.) If/when an attack comes here it will most likely be from a bird of prey or a neighbors dog.

I wonder if theres any rabid chicken or duck stories. Ya know, poultry that was bit by a rabid animal but didn't die & contracted the disease? Anybody ever heard of such a thing?

Ok, I just read the article. Apparently they wouldn't live long enough to display symptoms.

I used to bury them, after repeated dog attacks this summer I ran out of burial plots suitable for the task I started putting them in feed bags and thrown in the garbage. I I had woods behind my house I would just take them far off into them and let scavengers feed off of them.
