What do you do with your extra chicks?

I have a few little Serama cockerels I want to sell but nobody wants them!

Well, we don't know whether to contact you about them, because we have no idea where you're located....You can edit your profile to show where you are, as generally or specifically as you'd like.

Thanks BYC members. That gives me some options. I think my granddaughter will turn into as much of a hatchoholic as I do. She will be 10 this month and loves to do everything I do.

Maybe I will ask for an incubator for Christmas.

I found I can sell any bird I don't move on craigslist at the local swapmeet, keeps me from needing to cull. I just mark em down and sell em off, they're spares anyway. It's funny but I always sell any banty birds at the highest prices. Go figure. Even Roos.

I take a royal beating at the local poultry swaps if everyone else is also selling out. I make good money at them if I'm on target and have good sized pullets and cockerals when everyone wants them.

Craigslist works for some but I'm careful and usually meet people nearby. There are some burglars replying to ads on craigslist here in TN. I don't want trouble coming home.

I have a new feed store I'm going to, looks like he sells some birds - I'll probably check with him about selling some there.

Every time I get more chickens my DH keeps reminds me about the tomatoes. I grew them from seed in my greenhouse. The problem came when I couldn't decide what variety I wanted to grow so I chose 24 varities. (So far only 14 chicken breeds). Then I planted every seed in each packet. They were so small. (sound I could have hatching issues?)

Much to my surprise, every seed came up. I had around 800 tomato plants! (Still only 47 chickens). They grew bigger and bigger and finally took over my greenhouse and spilled out into the yard. I started giving them away. I gave them to the friends and neighbors, the teachers at granddaughters school, the ladies at the garden club, the friendly girl at the local Burger King, the sale to benefit disabled adults. I begged people to take tomato plants off my hands because I didn't want to just let them die (I would not be good at culling).

Today people I gave tomato plants to, even strangers, who see me on the street, in the grocery store, etc. tell me of their great tomato harvest.

Thank you all. You have given me hope that, even with the obsessive gene I inherited from someone, things will work out somehow and I won't have to just give up and move when chickens take over.

That's an awesome idea Jody!

Last year I gave them black and blue Jersey Giants. It was interesting to see that there were JG's in the fair last year and this year. I had never seen them there before. I had to wonder if some were my babies. This year I gave them extra Golden Cuckoo Marans. I hope to see some at the fair next year.
