What do you do with.....

To the outside world feeding heads and brains and feet and guts to dogs and cats is truly just downright disgusting. But to the outside world so is processing your own chickens.

It's funny to read "ya, I let my cats play with my chicken heads and then they eat them".

I'm not one to judge, my cats love chicken heads too. But to someone not used to this, they would think that this is something straight out of Deliverance....

Feet are good for the dogs too, so don't toss them. Good for their joints.

I LOVE gizzards but I cant handle the liver or heart. I'd use them for fish bait. As far as the rest of it goes, well, I guess I'll have to butcher on Wednesday so the trash guy can pick it up on Thursday. I dont have any big dogs to feed the spare parts to but I will keep the chicken stock feet thingy in mind. This will gross my family out. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of cooking while they are at school and work lol.

On another note I have a question. When you feed your dogs the "spare parts" are you not afraid that they will go after your live chickens? I would think that would encourage them.

Nah. Most dogs can't make the connection. They don't think "yum, I love this slimy brown thing I'm eating. I think it came from those fluffy white things outside!" They just don't.

And even if a dog does figure it out (like the ones given whole chickens with feathers), then it comes down to training. Just because food is delicious, and they see some food, does NOT mean they have permission to go eat it! It takes training, but I occasionally even drop food on the floor while I'm cooking and my dog knows to wait to be told to come get it. She knows eating food that I have not said belongs to her is wrong. And the same applies to my chickens and rabbits. She may look at them, she may touch them, she may NOT bite them. And she obeys.
