I was going to guess, Salmonella? LOL

I house mine in the spare bedroom (chicks)--but I use an air filter for a furnance over the one end of their brooder. It REALLY cuts down on the dust in the room and you can use an air compressor to hose it off between hatches...

i think mine will be in the basement from now on i am still trying to clean the mess i have to be careful though during the time they were in there i used a powder to get rid of mites and then ended up with pneumonia so i am wearing a mask while i do this cause i think the powder caused my pneumonia

Oh yes! They produce lots and lots of dust! Mine will only be brooded in my back bathroom for that reason alone.

I had the incubators in my kitchen this summer (still do, though I had been planning to break them down, it's going to be another month yet). I didn't have the mess because the chicks were contained pretty well and not long for the brooder, but...Did you ever feel bad about making chicken for dinner around them?
