What do you get when you cross....

400

Here is a better picture of my rooster that I just took this morning. Do you still consider him an EE?

Hello from Pleasant Grove CA,

I just let my broody Rock hen hatch 3 eggs from my favorites. 1 easter egger, 1 americana, and 1 buff. I have 2 roosters, 1 black silkie and 1 american game. 1st egg to hatch was the easter eggers named gray tail who is light brown with puffy ear feathers and a greay blue tail (heance her name), the chick is all black with a faint yellow chest and black and yellow feathered feet, so we know who's the daddy is on that one. The 2nd to hatch was the buff's egg. its all blond with the slightest dark line from eye to ear. 3rd egg is americana that is white with black tipped feathers, the chick is yellow with 3 color strip down its back and black line from eye to ear. I am assuming that the last 2 are fathered by the american game. Wish I could post pictures (cant figue it out) they are just addorable, especially the silkie. Now I need to find out how to sex them. I hope for all hens.

I know this is an old thread but I am looking to cross a Blue Americuana (pretty sure she is a true Americuana and not an EE) hen with a Barred Rock Rooster. My hen has gotten broody 3 times in the last 4 months (she is less than a year old). My wife and I were going to send her to the stock pot until we received a juvenile Barred Rock Roo (This is the only roo we have of 18 birds). Any Ideas on egg color or future hen offspring?

Well, if you're hen is truly an ameraucana (note spelling, this is the proper way. Americana is used by hatcheries to 'trick' people into buying EE) anyway, if she's truly an ameraucana and has the right set of blue egg genes then your female babies will probably lay green. Blue plus brown equals green eggs. If she is a blue EE, then all bets are off. The offspring could lay varying shades of green or brown.

eta: In the future, I'd post a new thread with this kind of question. Often people will see the date on the first post and pass it by. You'll get more attention for your answer if you post a new thread. BUT... Welcome to the flock!!!! Glad you could join us!!!!
