What do you grow to feed the chickens??

DH and I cleaned pens today and spread some deep sand in the pens to make them easier to clean. I also gave 3 BBW turkey a bath from laying in the mud they were so dirty the looked very bad. Now they are white as snow again!

gjensen, I enjoyed reading about what you plant and grow for your birds in the fall and winter. It has given me some ideas for my birds. I may close off the back portions of their runs and plant them with some stuff to forage in for fall and winter. Thank you!

I am growing tomato and a few lettuce varieties just for the chickens. The chickens pay me back with poop.

They love good food and as much as they love to eat it always comes out the other end so we get to scoop the poop.

It really is. Today while trying to clean pens and spread sand my turkey kept pooping all over the place and huge balls and my DH was hollering at them to quit so he could get done!

Priceless, well I love gardening so I use it for the plants.

I pile all the old coop poo in a pile in the woods and let it cure for a few months then we use it so it won't burn the plants.

Yes the best compost, I put the shavings, grass cutting and coffee grounds, water it down and cover with a tarp.

Sounds good.
I also have shavings in my coops. But I have another pile of compost that I use for vegies and coffee grounds and egg shells and stuff we use in planting.
