What Do You Grow to Feed to Your Chickens?

I ordered seed today and I ordered both Mammoth Russian sunflowers and some extra winter squash with the specific intent of growing them for the chickens.

I also intend to plant more collards, kale, mustard, and turnips than previously next fall for more winter green stuff.

I'm hoping to start a 'chicken garden' this spring with mainly lettuce and kale (two of their favorites) and maybe some other greens!

I am going to start a mini garner in my duck ru for my ducks! I am going to grow mostly herbs, and then some calendula flowers I think. I am also going to put Blueberry, and Huckleberry bushes in the run, along wit Thornless rose, maybe Hawthorn, and then some kind of Butterfly bush alternative.

Some of every vegetable I grow, tends to go to the chickens for treats once in a while. I am going to also grow sunflowers this year!

I grow drone frames in my hives. Set them down and the girls go nuts over the larvea. They don't peck and get bored like some treats, they get every single one.

Hour later I put them back into my hives.

My older hen loves cherry tomatoes, so I plan to grow some for her.

The new coop will not have enough natural shade so I figured that Mammoth Russian sunflowers would be doubly useful if I plant them near the coop.

It seems all my tomatoes are for them!

They get everything that’s damaged or that we don’t have time to can or freeze before it will go bad. I also planted some extra blueberry bushes so they could have some too. I might plant some extra winter squash and watermelon for them. Their favorite is probably the native persimmon trees that were already on the property when we moved here.

Mine certainly get all the weeds and everything else we don't eat.
