What do you have to cross to get an EE, and an OE

An EE is anything mixed with a blue egg layer that carries the blue egg laying gene. Technically, and OE is an EE, but a subcategory for those that lay ONLY green eggs. To get an OE, one could cross anything with the blue egg layer with a brown egg layer to get a green egg layer. There's an OE thread you can read on and ask questions over, they have TONS of good info on genetics.

We loved the production and dual-purpose breeds for their eggs but found them too aggressive with our bantams and gentle breeds so had to re-home the heavier heritage and layer hens. We are down to 4 gentle peaceful non-combative hens since we are zoned for only 5 hens. We are researching to add a 5th gentle breed - a Russian Orloff, Pavlovskaja, Orust, or Swedish Flower Hen - all of which we know very little and would appreciate your experience regarding their temperaments (combative, standoffish, gentle, wild, human-shy, etc.) We've ruled out gentle giants like Brahma, Dorking, Faverolles, Sussex, Jersey Giant, LF Cochin, because they are too heavy to put in our flock containing bantams and lightweight breeds. Any experience/input welcome!

Aw, I am so sorry!!! I lost 10 out of 11 of my girls Friday to my own dogs

ugh! That is a horrible thing to happen!

Sorry to hear about that. I love my dogs but if they harm my rabbit or chickens, I'd probably turn them into a purse and belt. And maybe a hat to go with.

Update on my three pullets. My husband called me at 3:30am to tell me something killed two of our chickens. It was a possum. It only took their heads off but didn't eat anything. He found the possum in a tree above the chicken run. It's dead now. I'm so sad about it. I'm out of town taking care of my frail father for a week and feel so helpless.
They were not locked in the coop and the chicken run had a gap at the top part we did not take care of... we will be redesigning the chicken run and locking the one up EVERY night.

That's ok don't apologize suggesting Brahma - we love the gentle giants like Brahmas and Favies - so gentle that they can be found at the bottom of flock politics. It's just with 2-lb bantams we didn't want to put 7 to 9-lb giants in with them. But thank you, I agree, the Brahmas are not only beautiful but gentle souls too.
