What do you keep your peafowl in?

Not sure what more you are looking for CHicken0boy?

Both Minx and kuntrygirl posted some fantastic pics for you. Most all of us have had to custom build something, based on individual needs. If you do some searching you'll find all kinds of designs or just grab a notepad and start sketching some ideas out! Check out the coop sections too, lots of ideas there! Brad Legg also has some great pics on his website http://www.leggspeafowl.com/pen_photos.htm

BTW, Minx, i love your setup, if only we were in a warmer area I would love to do more of a setup like yours and kuntrygirl....I absolutely ADORE your pen you made, seriously, I just LOVE it.

Make sure you post more pics once you get it all painted, I was looking for your thread on it last night be couldn't find it.

their setups. Really. It is just that I don't think I could do something like that.

I have limited building skills.

I am just wanting to get some basic info on Peafowl aviary, because I will probably have to sketch my own.

Edited to ask: Will peafowl act like chickens in a sense of them warming up to the owner and following them around?

ah ok. well, really your best bet would be to google a bit and see some pics. check Brad's pics too.

We use 4x4 posts with 2x4 crossbeams for framing, the posts are all cemented in for stability too. All treated wood. Everything is covered in wire and then we have aviary netting on top (check ebay or amazon for that). The wire can be found locally at TSC or other building supply place. We use 2x4 for roosts too, plus they add extra stabiliy to the structure. the main things you want to are make sure it's stable, secure and functional. Obviously, it's nice to have something that is visually appealing too though! Oh and I'm not sure where you are located but weather may play a factor in your design too. We are in NE Oho and get lots and LOTS of snow so we need to keep that in mind, Minx is down south so (gosh, I hope) no snow to contend with. For instance, we had a really bad ice storm a couple weeks ago that showed us we need to add some additional support to the netting in one pen.

Repairs need to be made now and once spring arrives a more permanent fix will need to be made.

For a pen, you can either go with something pre-built or make something yourself. We have pretty limited skills here too but don't doubt yourself, you'd be surprised at what you can do yourself when you really put your mind to it!

I have one we built that our pygmy goats and potbellied pig are in now that honestly, isn't very pretty but functions great! I'll see if I can find a pic of it somewhere, if I remember it's about 8x10.

ok, here's the shelter we made. As I said, not pretty! need to add some beautification to the list for this summer!

Also, not currently being used for peafowl BUT it's an example of something you can build--even if you have little no building experience!

We did initially use this to house chickens and it worked out well for us. At the tallest point it's about 6 1/2 feet (we can stand in there) and it slopes down to about 5 1/2 feet. I'm 5'3" and can stand in that part, hubby's taller so he needs to crouch a bit. If you made something similar to this, you could leave the side we have the small door in all open for easy access (or cut a larger door) and could even make the structure a bit taller pretty easily. This is not attached the ground at all, it just sits there so technically with a little muscle it could be relocated if need be. Roosts are easy enough, just nail some 2x4 across inside and you should be good.

Yep we don't get any snow here just cold rain.
6littlechickies is right it might not be as hard as you think to build something for the peafowl. It was pretty fun and easy making our peafowl pen.
Texas peafowl has a ton of flight pen designs from small to large here:

For plants you can always dig up some native plants in the woods. There is always some neat plant you can find by just walking the woods or something.

I will post my plans tonight. I am doing it on paint so it is taking alot of time.

Its worth it though. One more question though, will peacokcs warm up to the owner like a chicken by following them around and sitting in your lap?

My two year old peacock that I got as a yearling likes to follow me around. When he was on the roost today he flew down just to follow me. I know some people have ones they can have in their lap, but I don't have any like that.
