what do you need for quail!!

i have chicken but i might get some quail
what do you need
can they live outside?
do they need a house or can they live in a run?

Yes out side after there feathered out is the place for them with the exception of buttons, which aint real hardy.... and a old rabbit hutch can be a good pen if set up proper... Welcome to the quail board. Bill

They will do fine in a open "run" as long as they can stay dry and out of the wind in cold weather. They need shade in the hot times too. It sounds like you want to keep birds on the ground. This will work but I prefer to raise them off the ground like rabbits. They can pick up alot of parasites on the ground. Also they are probably better off not to share a "run" or pen with chickens or other barnyard avian.... Bill

BTW, I always thought Id like to visit Ireland. I would like to spend some quality time there "inspecting" every pub I could find, ride'n the bus from one to another, get'n to know the local folks... Sounds like a great time to me!! Bill

and yea jason, i raise mine above ground as well, go with what bill said, they can have a run, as long as its close to a 3 walled enclosure so they can keep dry and out of the heat

Is a two foot high pen high enough or will they fly up and bash their heads?

mine is 2 foot high inside, they don't really fly around much unless they get scared. i recently lost one of my quails due to him getting scared and flying up and breaking his neck

don't let that deter you tho, i still firm believe that 2ft. is high enough, my quail just was a freak accident(which does happen from time to time)
