We are wanting to start a online store but i want to make sure my bum is covered on everything. How do i do taxes and do i need a business license? I don't have enough product ready but i want to have everything set up before i jump in. We are also hoping to sell at farmers markets and maybe get a store to carry our stuff. Any info would be great!

Yep, Etsy is good.

You only really have to charge tax if you are selling to someone in the same state as you.

If you use Paypal, they have a tax and shipping section where you can set it up to automatically charge that stuff for you.

I also use homestead.com for my website and they have an easy add on of a store.

You need to get a sales tax permit/license to collect sales tax and submit it to your state. You generally only have to collect sales tax for sales in the same state (on taxable products).

Whether you need any other specific business licenses, or need to register your business name depends on your state. A lot of information is available on line. Google your state ... generally it's something.gov, but a google search should find it for you.
