hay, straw, or shavings? I have been using hay but my new hens are laying on the floor in the shavings. Would putting shavings in the next box help?I have plenty of nest boxes, 10 for about 30 hens, they only use 3 of the boxes and at least one hen is using the floor.

I have six nest boxes, in four of them is hay (well, kinda just dried grass clippings) and in two is a mix of hay and shavings. So far my hens prefer the hay nests. I heard that straw is not a good choice because it is hollow and there might be a mites issue, don't know have no experience with it.
