What do you put in your nesting boxes?

I tried hay but went back to shaving because it is easier to get the poo out from the ones that seem to think the nest boxes make good places to sleep

It's really a matter of preference. I use wood shavings, I like how they smell and they are easy to keep clean. I hate straw with a passion. I know some people think it's easy to clean up but I despise cleaning straw out of anywhere. Mine don't kick the shavings out of the boxes too badly, works for us.

ETA: And as a livestock owner hay in nest boxes just seems like sacrilege. That's FOOD, people!

I use shavings in the Nesting Boxes.When I tried hay they pushed it all to the sides causing the eggs to fall on to plain wood and break a lot.

I change the clippings when ever it gets dirty or low. Only once or twice a week. I like to keep it clean so my eggs do not get dirty
