What do YOU suggest I get. (restocking flock)

Faverolles!!!!!! are the sweetest chickens, great layers, great at foraging, Beautiful to look at and I don't know if there is a really smart chicken but these guys are right up there. They are a heritage breed and very worthy of preserving. Try to find a breeder, I am not sure the hatcheries have great quality Faverolles but they are worth the effort to find good ones.

I have only had bantams but I can't imagine not being without them and right now I am. Come November I will have myself a trio of Bantam Faverolles and Life will once again be good here in my part of Alabama

-Leghorns, white or non white, if you get them as day olds and do it right they will be friendly
-Chanteclers, a rare breed
-Brahmas, Large Fowl or Bantam
- Easter Eggers

Yes and no. They look somewhat similar to RIRs, but have a pea comb, of course. I find their temperament to be better, some production strains of RIRs can be very mean to other birds. They don't lay as many eggs as a production strain of RIRs, but they're not meant to. And they are better dual purpose birds, IMO, as you have the wider, meatier breast.

I vote for Buff Orpingtons as the most friendly. I also think Barred Rocks are pretty friendly. The only hen I have that won't let me touch her is an Ameracauna. She will eat out of my hand, come right up to me, but it's touch-me-not! One of my Buffs gets in my lap every time I sit down. She puts her head in my armpit and nuzzles me, and wipes her beak on my chest. She loves her ears and wattles stroked. Very, very cute! Both my Buffs lay almost every day and started at a young age. Their eggs are a beautiful pale pink.
