I have a turkey tom that I bought a couple of months ago. Long story short he was hurt being put into the transfer box. I didn't notice until after I brought him home and put him into quarantine. After a trip to the vet the verdict is that he will always have a limp. Severity of the limp should go down as long as he keeps healing. I have tried to integrate him into the rest of the flock but everyone beats up on him so I built him a small run (@6'x8' including the hutch) just for himself with a large hut for sleeping in that he really likes alot (no more roosting for him). My question is what type of "buddy" would be best to put in with him? As soon as the others head off to the big coop for the night he tries to follow them and seems quite bothered to be left alone. Problem with this is obviously I do not have enough room for another turkey in that space (I had to build it small so he does not have to walk very far to get where he wanted to go) and second I have to watch his feed really well. NO FAT turkey here. I have to keep him light. Would a small bantam chicken work do you think? Or is there another option that I have not thought of yet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
