What do you think about this quail food ? (One of the only one I can get in Switzerland)

ADULT
protein 190 g/kg
cellulose 45 g/kg
TME 11.4 MJ/kg (true metabolizable energy)
lysine 9.5 g/kg
methionine 5 g/kg

BABY
protéine 190 g/kg
cellulose 50 g/kg
lysine 12 g/kg
TME 11.8 MJ/kg
methionine 5.6 g/kg

Sorry for the bad units :(

If my math is right, that's only 19% protein. That's pretty low for a quail. You want to aim for something between 24 and 30%. If you can't find anything with a higher percentage you can add things to their diet to increase the protein. Cooked or canned fish is good, just watch the salt level in canned fish. Mealworms are good too but they also have a lot of fat so don't go too crazy with those. Some people feed dry cat food but that can sometimes have a lot of salt too.

Love my quails

Scrambled eggs and sprouted alfalfa are easy ways to get some more protein into them. I discovered they like sunflower sprouts too. I feed 20% protein Meatbird crumble as it's cheaper than the gamebird food available in New Zealand (which has the same amount of protein anyway)! It can be difficult to find good food for a reasonable price.

They only one of the Haygates I would use for my quail would be the superstarter and that would be for their lifetime. The rest don’t have enough protein. If I have a choice, I would rather give a feed with enough protein in it already than to get one that’s too low and supplement with other things.

I get that there isn’t always a choice. I have had to feed my quail all flock and extra mealworms for a while because the feed store was out of my brand. The other game feed the store offered was the same protein level as the all flock I was already buying for the rest of my birds. If it had become a long term thing, I would have started looking for other options as even the all flock is only 20%.
