We started our little chicken family with two Buff Orpingtons and two Speckled Sussex. When one of the BO's went broody I tried everything to get her to stop but she was persistent. She disappeared one night, leaving a trail of feathers. :-( Our other BO hopped the fence and got her neck broken by something that just left her there. 
I'd never get another BO hen because they are known for being broody. I've heard the BO roosters are quite nice to their hens though.
After we lost our BO and then a Speckled Sussex went MIA I went out and got two Easter Eggers and two Barred Plymouth Rocks. I recently had to keep my EE isolated because I thought she was eating eggs. Now she is very submissive to me. Before that she was very skittish. She is our absolute SOFTEST chicken. I love to pet her the most. The Rocks are only interested in me for food. They are my least favorite chickens.
On March 1 I got two White Leghorn chicks and two Easter Eggers. All four of them are extremely psycho and don't want me near them. I've heard that Leghorns can be very affectionate but so far I've not seen any sign of that.
I really wish I'd bought an incubator and hatched them all myself so they would be imprinted on me. If I ever get more chicks that is what I'm going to do.
I do like the Speckled Sussex, too. Time will tell about the Leghorns.
