What Do You Think of "Gerri" ??

Keeping them white.... Keep her out of the sun. It whitens ducks, but yellows chickens. Stay away from yellow corn...scratch, cracked corn, even flock raiser pellets that have yellow corn as a main ingredient. If you want to keep her white, clean sawdust is a must. Once feathers are stained or broken off, the bird has to go through a molt to repair the damage. There are whitening shampoos that help a little but they usually leave a bluish purple tinge to the feathers. It still is really tough to get seriously stained feathers ready for the show ring. If you don't want any feathers damaged from mating, you remove the cockerels/roosters too.

You better keep her under lock and key! I might just take a ride across town and bring her home with me!

Just kidding of course I would never steal your chickens - she is beautiful - I love silkies and need more!

Thanks... I DO have them "locked" up though. I have spent so much money, and time, I would be devastated if anything got them. I am always bathing and blow -drying them. They are really great about it too!

Thanks! Finally, I think I have a "winner".

Now if I can just continue to keep her well groomed. Still waiting for her first egg. Now I have to find a "quality" roo!

Another question... I have a white pullet (Gerri), a "now" splash Pullet (Splashy) and a Partridge hen... What color roo should/could I use to breed all 3 girls? I stink at genetics..

My understanding is you only want to breed white to white. So, if Gerri is your best hen, then I would get a white roo for her. She is so cute! Love her!
