~What do you think of this coop

I am building this accommadation at present. 8 x 6. The coop is 6 x 30" . Thinking of having 4 birds what do you think ?

For 5 months through the winter I will open a gate to let them run into 8 x 6 greenhouse also.

My garden is set out for wild life, I have ponds with frogs & newts.

If i let my hens out they would make a meat of all.

So they will have to stay in their run.

Am i being cruel to keep them in such a small space ?

Reg, I think that is a beautiful little set up as long as you only have three or so. Letting them out regularly into a bigger area where they could free range would also be a good choice if you asked me. That looks like an attractive little backyard set up if you asked me. I like that one! If I moved back to the city I'd look for something just like that!

When using the guidelines for 4 sq feet per bird are people saying that DOES or DOESN'T include nestboxes?

That is a good question....I would think not, because you don't really want them hanging out in there.

I found the photo on the net. I will make it to my size but it should look just like it. going to cost tho !

I think to some extent it depends on how much time they are going to be inside. If it is just to sleep or inclement weather and your climate is nice, they need less coop space. If you live in Nebraska and x amount of months a year they pretty much have to stay inside, you need more space for them.

I would personally find it hard to limit myself to three chickens. They are like potato chips.
