How would you know who doesn't have an education. I homeschool my kids for a number of reasons. Public school isn't what it was years ago. I know alot of wonderful homeschoolers who have a very good work ethic. Personally, I wouldn't want to work for you with your attitude.
I 100% agree, public school has gone down hill in many, many ways. I am FAR from being against homeschooling- I think its ok, when done by dedicated parents within a system that has checks and testing to make sure the children are, in fact learning. But heres the thing, if I am an employer, and I am told by an applicant, "I was homschooled all my life" Well, ok, but maybe I need to see the credentials of your parents/teachers so I know just what kind of education you really have. How in the world do I know you really know what your doing? I worry about kids and their futures.
I REALLY am interested to know how a child who is unschooled gets into Harvard or Yale? Personally, I want my children to excell and be a leader of industry. I want my child to be able to have options. How do children get into Ivy League schools without a highschool diploma from a regular school? I am pretty sure the guys running the fortune 5000 companies went to traditional schools. Its where you make lifelong contacts as well.
In my business, we use patent attorneys, graphic designers, alot of technical people that had to go to alot of school to learn to do their jobs. And they are paid well for their time. Kinda like doctors- they spend years and years in school, not unschool, and they charge alot because their time is worth it.
I think the unschooling thing is just not a good idea for the majority. Homeschool works for a few, but by and far, this great nation was built by amazing inteligent people who went to traditional public schools.
Again, I apologise if my thoughts offended you, I am not trashing homeschool (as a whole) I just live a diffferent life than alot of people and have seen what happens in the big big world and how people treat each other differently based on job status and income and success, and how different life is when your not barely scraping by every month.
When our daughter wanted a tattoo, we said- Ya know, I bet the CEO of Proctor and Gamble doesnt have one. Thats where we want our kids to elevate themselves to. To see that huge success is possible and within reach. But I dont think that can be said of unschoolers. I will say I'm not that well educated about unschooling, but I like to think I'm pretty good at figuring things out!
