Anybody hunt hogs with dogs in your area? With that kind of cross looks like somebody might have been trying to breed a catch dog.

That isn't brindling people are seeing, that is Catahoula merle.

whatever he is one of the parents HAD to be merle because its dominant. I say either dane or catahoula mix. Cant say dane for sure without a full body shot but his head is pretty suspicious. Ive seen full catahoulas look like him too!
