What do you use for feeders/waterers?

Darn, wish I had known that before I purchased mine online.

Well, now I have 6 nipples. I'm not sure the best way to set them up. If I put them in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket (3 nipples per bucket), do I have to use a lid? I know that my galvanized waterer has to seal in order to not leak out all over the coop floor. But do the nipples require a seal on the bucket, too?

Plus, I'm intrigued by gobblecluck's description of his watering set up. I'm not getting a visual -- do you have pictures you could post? I'd love to be able to water without having to carry a bucket into the coop or run!!

I love you BYCers! I get the greatest ideas from reading your posts!!!

Your nipples will actually need the opposite. I have a lid with a hole over my bucket to keep the water clean, but you have to have a way for air to enter.

Thanks for the info!!!

In the morning I sometimes let in "The Cleaning Lady" to pick clean the kitchen floor after youngest son helped make breakfast. Her pay is a bit of frozen shredded cheddar cheese. She's happy to help. Does a very tidy job. Fills her little gullet quick!

I use a auto waterer that is hooked up to a garden hose. I would love to have a nipple system. I have to have things like water automated due to my ADD and constant pain issues.

I put the lid on my 5 gallon bucket nipple waterers but I drill a hole in it for the air to enter. My first try I made a 1" hole so I could just stick a hose in there, but it seemed too prone to getting poop in the water, so my second one I just drilled a small hole and I take the lid off to add water. Have to have the lid on, especially for babies - I think they could fly up and fall in, otherwise!

A thirty gallon drum inside a fifty five gallon drum. Cut down to fit in the tractor.

Keeps them fed for a while.
