What do you use to guard your flock?

The contemp you have for your dogs is obvious. Rehoming them would be a favor.

I am asking you very nicely to be polite in your responses to my wife. I see no contempt for any of our animals and I live here. Ruth thinks Addicus has a lot of potential as a livestock guard dog. At some point in professional discussions, courtrooms and in public opinion, it might become necessary to start assailing the credentials and motivations of those posting their thoughts on a subject; necessary in an effort to win. None of us are paid to render an opinion here and for the most part this forum is intended to be informative and fun.

okay you're going to have to explain that in more detail. What keeps them from getting out/ i mean it is a hole...unless you rig it somehow.
please let me know, because it sounds like a great idea. we have coons, so i'd like to try ANYTHING to catch them!

I'm guessing this is a barrel that is sealed, and the hole she cuts is in the top of the barrel. You can do a similar thing with trash cans and possums, but i digress.

So if the raccoon smells the cat food and climbs onto the top of the barrel and then into the hole, it won't be able to come back out because it will have nothing to climb on.

Does this help?

Now that's funny. Thanks for the laugh. Where's your sense of humor? The dog looks like Vinnie Barbarino.

Some younger puppy pics.

Off topic, but I simply cannot remain quiet with this one. Le Canard why would you interpret an obviously endearing remark about a dog as a statement of contempt. It puts you pretty squarely in the troll category and you should stop it.

This person is obviously working through a bit of a "patch" with a couple of dogs she regards very highly, but have yet to mature into what they will likely ultimately become. Whether or not the dogs have been handled perfectly is something none of us can know, but it is obvious she/they spend a good bit of time interacting and doing their best for these animals.

comments totally uncalled for

Using the best fence and netting possible, also protected by Leg traps, box traps and CR'S and guns Plus game cams for surveillance none flash and flash versions(cams used for two legged preds as well)

The fencing usually takes care of everything. When our Bloodhound is outside, nothing gets past her. She bays loud enough to wake up the whole county.

Got two labs but they are indoor dogs, they only go out to pee before bed and the night is up to me to protect within my means..wich I'm very good at..

My dog Auggie, Newfie Pit mix, owns the nite. I think he likes to hear himself bark. Living in the city, across the street from RIF RAF, it is nice for him to let them know he is there. He sleeps all day, and around 10 at nite, he plants himself with a full view of the yard, barks at anything and everything. He is just gettin ready to be one year old. still growing. Last check he was 85 lbs.
I just noticed today that all my dogs are either Buff's or Blacks or a combination. I am thinkin of training them to hang with the flock that matches their color. They'll blend in and never know their there.

I have 2x4 welded wire fence, 6' tall. It is set in a shallow trench that I poured with concrete I mixed on site via my old trusty electric mixer. It is lined at ground level with 24" tall chicken wire fastened to the fence so that my peeps do not poke their heads thru to be yanked off by a racoon. Also, I have 4 strands of fence charger wire and a 4KV unit that is capable of charging 5 miles of fence. Currently, we go out at dusk and make a head count before dropping the two solid guillotine-style pop door closers into place. Nothing but an elephant or a two-legged predator can get ours after dark. I am adding a catch-and release trap soon and will keep it baited for anything that comes along. After catching, I will release whatever into a shallow grave in my woods.

My pen is 180 ' perimeter and open to the sky. No chicks. Crows keep owls and hawks away hereabouts, plus trees make it hard for them to have a good line to dive in and escape. Doubt they would try that with grown birds anyway tho. Never get complacent though. Predators are very adaptable.
