What do you use to mark eggs? Does it matter?

Someone started a rumor about sharpie markers being poison to eggs, its not true. I smear it all over them, x's circles, lines, dates, what ever it takes to know at a glance what is what. You can believe what ever.

I use a crayon. Does the job just fine

I like that idea. I'll have to go get a package of colored pencils.

I take each egg personally, however it does help when you have problems and have to deal with it later.

Farmgirlie sounds like me. All good intentions and then I can't find ANYTHING, so IN they go.

I can't find a single pencil or crayon in this house FULL of arts and crafts stuff. I just can't believe it. I wanted to use food coloring, but can't find THAT either.

So, I'll go look for a GRAPHITE pencil. Have to have one somewhere in this messy house.

Thanks to all!

Yeah, it was there within easy reach (dry erase) and I wasn't thinking about it at the time but if I would of stopped to think I would have known the dry erase would just turn into a color blob smear with no way of telling the date or hen name anymore. Duh me! Now I have a pencil and a sharpie right beside the bater that not to be touched by anyone but me. LOL

If i'm turning my eggs by hand then yea i mark them but if i'm putting them in a auto turner i don't bother to mark them since i'm not turning them by hand..only reason i would mark them even though there on an auto turner is if i have more than one breed of chicken eggs in the bator then i would mark them by breed so i would know witch eggs is hatching

I mark them with an acronym for the breed... BO, BR... since I have several breeds in there at once, and a number, and anything else that might be relevant. Then when I candle, I put a "?", or "

" or "BR?" mark... I like lots of "

"s...
