What do you use to mark eggs?

I use different colors of permanent makers and for the 1rst few hatches used those BIG permanants that are like 5 inches around (not really that big but still).

I prefer pencil, but if one is not handy or the kids/hubby have made off with it I use whatever I can find. Markers, sharpie, pencil, inkpen, whatever.

I use pencil, mostly. Sharpies work, too.

I can never find a sharpie when I need one (thanks kids

) but there are always plenty of crayons around, so that's what I've used. Didn't seem to hurt anything my last hatch, had 7 of 12 hatch on my second attempt.

The problem with pencil is that it rubs off and is hard to read.

Sharpies are the most legible by far. The solvent in Sharpies evaporates almost instantly and does not penetrate the shell.

We've always used sharpies and pencils. No issues.
