What do you use to tell your chickens apart?

I think you have mostly Dominiques, not Barred Rocks.

The main difference between the two breeds is the comb type:
Barred Rocks have single combs and Dominques have rose combs.

Dominique parents can produce an occasional chick with a single comb, but two Barred Rock parents will never produce a chick with a rose comb. So the single-comb one might come from either breed.
The hatchery was supposed to send 10 Dominiques with rose combs but half the chicks had single combs and narrower bands of white. I only kept one of the darker one and call her Sweet Pea.I still can't tell my Dominiques apart lol

I got these from aliexpress and they work amazing. Last year I put them on my silkies at 3 months old and all I had to do was adjust the size every couple months until their legs stopped growing. My favorite part is that THE SIZE IS ADJUSTABLE!
Also the pecking should stop after a couple days. They've stayed on my chickens for a year now. A friend of mine said the snap on one's fall off all the time. I guess it depends on the chickens.

I can tell mine apart by appearance, but the colors work great for telling them apart from a distance + I love the fun colors.

Thank you! You were kind enough to help me identify her a year ago when I posted pictures. I ordered Dominique pullets only but also got barred rocks and some roosters.

As I posted earlier, I use the plastic snap-on leg bands. This is Violetta, who went broody 2 days ago and was confined to broody jail. Before I took her back out to the flock this morning, I drew on her crest with purple marker so I could see from the top who it was, in case she went back in a nest box. (Since 5 of my hens look exactly alike).
