What do you use to whiten a White Silkie?

These are all good tips,

I don't know if it is true in chickens, but in guinea pigs you can be DQ'd by using a product that will dye or alter the coat like a dye. So we are not allowed to use the whitening shampoos. I haven't had much luck with them short term for horses as they do leave them with a hint of blue. LOL However, we can use a stain remover in guinea pigs. So we have always used the enzyme based pet stain removers. It gets quite a bit off without dying the hair (or in your case I would assume feathers.) LOL And it isn't nearly as damaging to the hair as bleach or a whitening agent.

Good Luck tomorrow!

Yes, your bird can be DQed if you alter the feather color.

BUT...washing them with an agent that gets rid of stains isn't going to be considered cheating. It's considered cleaning.

I'm pretty sure the sprite isn't the final rinse. I was going to use it as a middle rinse. I rinse mine twice in two different pails.

Another very effective tool to whiten birds is to use Tide with Bleach Alternative. The stuff is amazing. Lather the bird up, let it soak for a few minutes, rise, and voila.

And no chance of a purple bird as with bluing.

Ah, that makes sense.

The bubbling action maybe helps with the cleaning... And they smell lemony fresh! LOL!

Thank you guys,
Well i washed there feet again with eye whightner for dogs and dawn dish liquid.

They came out pretty good.
my showgirl was the only one there, so she got #1 and BV.

And my silkie got a #1 hey that means the yellow came out, if they saw yellow they would have gave like a 3 or 4 or DQ.

Because I use baking soda to whiten/brighten and clean so many other things...perhaps making a past from it and some shampoo to rub onto their feet for a minute oir so just might do the tick.
That and it is a natural way to go about it.
