I hope I posted this in the right section.

I'm still kinda new to raising chickens.
I've seen DE mentioned in a lot of threads, but I am still not sure what it is and what it is used for.
We were about to go to TSC to pick up some chicken supplies and wanted to look for some in case I need it.

It stands for Diatomaceous Earth, and you would want to purchase the Food Grade kind, not the pool grade which is pretty much available anywhere. The Food Grade is harder to find and the brand name is Perma Guard. It is used as a preventative for mites, lice and in the feed for a wormer. I use it and love it! It gets dumped in dust baths, their feed and their roosts, coop, and nesting boxes. So far so good!!

Here's a link to tell about it!

Thank you so much! It is really hard to look something up if you can't remember the first word or remotely how to spell it.

If you have a Custom Milling dealer rep near you, they carry Perma Guard. I usually paid about $25 for 50# from the local guy.

Here are the current GA reps (the Fannin County co-op also carries Perma Guard now:

Thanks for sharing that list and the link! Bremen would be the closest to me, but still not close enough. Oh, well.

HIJACK ALERT...

I know I'm hijacking the thread, but I was wondering how old birds should be before I start putting it in the litter and food? I have a couple of older girls that I'd like to have it, but I don't want to hurt the younger ones.
