I read somewhere that:

Rhode Island Red Rooster X Barred Plymouth Rock Hen = Black Star

(Not sure I'm 100% correct about that)

My curiosity is what do you get when you cross the RIR rooster with a Golden Comet Hen?

I have read that Golden Comets aren't a 'true' breed...

Has anyone crossed these that could give me some idea of what to expect?

That's 100% correct.

I've crossed a Buff Orp with a Golden Comet here are the offspring:

A RIR cross would differ in that they would have yellow legs and probably a darker red color. They're great chickens, the female layes very well and the male is just gorgeous!

We just hatched eggs from a bantam RIR rooster and a standard BR. We ended up with 2 black stars and 1 BR (roo?).

We also had a red sex-link with the RIR rooster, and it looks like we have at least 3 red sex-links maybe 4. Not sure yet, they are still getting their feathers, and this is the first time we hatched eggs. We are newbies.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking forward to seeing how this goes. I am a newbie myself and my pullets haven't reached laying age yet, but I have been wondering about this every since I got my mix matched flock started...

Good thing I am trying to get more layers and not specific breeds...
