After sun bathing my girls will get up and walk around with their beaks wide open and their wings out. Only their shoulder part of the wing though the tip stays against their body. And do they typically lay in the same spot like multiple hens laying eggs in the same spot. Because I'm pretty sure i have two laying now but they are always in the same spot. I only get one egg a day but one is huge and the next is medium and it switched like that from day to day.

Sounds like they're panting. It's normal. Just make sure they have fresh cool water and some shade and they'll be fine.

Hi!

After a sunbath, they will pant (open mouth breath) and hold their wings away from their body to cool themselves back down. You might wet the area they are sunbathing in. They seem to enjoy a damp dust bath. And yes, lots of hens prefer to lay in the same spot as the others. Often 4 or more hens will use the same spot or box. It's a chicken thing!

Sounds like you have 2 laying with the different sized eggs.

Chickens pant like a dog to lose body heat.. And do they typically lay in the same spot Yes. Hens pick a nest site and continue to use it. In time they very likely will chose a new site and use that for awhile. Hens using a hidden nest will lay a clutch of eggs and then brood. like multiple hens laying eggs in the same spot. And so it's normal for them not to lay one egg a day? Since they are basicly taking turns laying in the nest.

Yes, depending on the breed(s) you have. Every 1.5 days or 2 days is about right. I get 3-4 eggs per day from 6 hens.
ETA Even the very best layers will skip a day. I think it's like 28 hours minimum for them to make an egg

It is normal depending on breed. My hens (silkies) usually lay one egg each day for three days and then take a day off. My serama lay every other day or even every third day. I was reading about Yokohama chickens today and it is normal to get one egg a WEEK with that breed!

It takes about 25 hours for an egg to form, a new ova is released shortly after an egg is laid.
A new egg could be laid approximately every 25-26 hours, so an hour or so later every day until one is laid late in the day and another ova might not be released until the following day, so a day off. BUT..very hen is different and only time will tell what a particular hen/pullets schedule might be. Not every hen/pullet lays every day..some only lay a few a week. Egg Formation Video
