What does running up and sitting down mean?

The hen squats like that for the rooster to mount her. After the mating and he dismounts she will ruffle her feathers. It is also a submissive thing. I do not have a rooster with my hens and when one is close by sometimes they will squat. I will reach down and stroke her back. When I quit she will get up and ruffle her feathers.

I have never seen it demonstrated towards humans if there is a rooster in the flock.

Mine do it for me and we have a rooster!
Last summer I had my 2 hens squatting for me, when I'd put my hand over the hens, I would say sit, and they would squat! I had everyone believing I tought them to sit! LOL!

Biddy I did that last night with Charlotte, I rubbed her back and she got all fluffy and moony eyed at me! I almost felt dirty lol! Ahbee I can just see my son convincing everyone he taught a chicken to sit. She already rides everywhere on his shoulder.

We have a BO that prefers DH over our banty roo. Really makes the little roo mad, too! He attacks DH if he sees him reaching down to pet the BO. It's hysterical to watch...
