What does vent gleet look like?

I noticed that one of my 5 chickens was out of sorts & didn't want to leave the coop today. On inspection her vent area is quite 'raw' with missing feathers, some whitish scores and black 'spots' around the swollen vent. Is she suffering from gleet or thrush? If so how can it be cured? Worried Frank

I dont know anything about gleet, but I would definitely check her for lice or mites. I have a hen with a 'naked booty' as DD says.

She is one of my free rangers so I dont see her often and the other day she walked by me and whoa. She looks like one of those red-butted monkeys on Animal Planet.

Mites! Yuck. Powdered her down and she will be fine.

So, anyways...back to the topic...check her for mites too
