What does YOUR farmhouse look like?! Post pictures here!

No doubt. My town has only grown by 100 people in the last 30 years, which is why we moved here. It has managed to stay rural while the areas around it are building up. We have a stupid city council, I mean really stupid, and they just approved TWO new housing DEVELOPMENTS that will DOUBLE the size of the town within the next two years. EVIL!

When the whole town found out they were going to approve these places, everyone showed up at the city council meeting to stop the final gavel rap. The city council said, "Sorry. We are not allowing the town to have a say in this now. We had public discussion last meeting" (when noone knew about it). EVIL!

Is it just me, or does that French chateau keep showing up?

thanks, ducky. we searched for about a year and a half before we found the house, or maybe the house found us... moved in last august, and we have a lot of plans/hopes etc. will take years to make them all happen but as I realized walking barefoot to the barn to check up on the chicks, we have already come a long way from our city dweller days...

My dream is to have a nice piece of land say... 5 or so acres, where it rains a decent amount each year. Unlike Tucson AZ where we are lucky to get 10 to 12 inches a year.

And I only want a small cottage with a thached roof, a spectacular chicken coop a few fruit trees, and a nice vegetable garden. And maybe a small cow.

But, for now I live on a residential lot 150' X 60'.

We have a "double" red brick home, only two bedroom and one bath. I owned it before I got married in 1994, we tried to sell it... but... not even ONE lookie lou!!

So... here we stay....it is big enough for us two and our huge dog and desert tortoise.

Here is the front of the house.

Here is the morning glory arch at the beginning of the flagstone walkway from last summer. I put in the flagstone walk all by myself! I got the flagstone free from one of our congregants that has his own business doing stone work.

My tree stump in the back garden (The tree was knocked over by a "microburst", that blew the cooler off the roof and flooded the backyard!

In the backyard I have a potting shed, of sorts, it is under a big pine tree, it has no roof on it, I made it from discarded pallets, the fence to divide the garden so "Zoop" the tortoise can't eat my vegetables is also made from discarded pallets. I grow ivy and morning glories and now this year nasturshims are growing on the pallets to help hide them. I put chicken wire up on the pallets so I could grow ivy on them and soon you will only see the ivy and not the pallets. But, that will take a while yet.

I do have one peach tree and two apricot trees, 7 various citrus trees I grew from seed, I know they are lime and lemons, but... didn't label them because I didn't expect them to really grow! Now they are about two feet tall! I do mostly square footgardening, but I made this neat planter out of my old wheel barrow this year. My husband got me a new wheelbarrow for our anniversary! (The week previous to our wedding anniversary, I asked him to look at my wheelbarrow, it had a flat tire.) So when he got me the new one, he said "That's what you wanted, a new wheelbarrow, right?

That is enough of my "homestead" for today...Hope I didn't bore you to death!!
