What are some early signs you look for to determine whether your chicks are pullets or cockerels?
I see lots of people comment on "what is this chicken" notes saying "looks like a roo," but giving no explanation. I'm sure lots of other members would like to have some tips. I sure would!

roo's have thicker legs, and combs that are larger & darker in size. Females feather in sooner. Hope this helps!

What i noticed the most on my chickens was the comb. On the males it starts to turn red pretty quickly. The girls will keep their yellow/orange combs for awhile before they turn pinkish and red. I still havent figured out what they mean by the saddle feathers. I ve heard them say ones feathers will be pointy and they other will be rounded. I went out and sat with my chickens and kept trying to see the difference between my roosters feather and the hens feathers and i just dont see the difference. he big legs is iffy. I have an EE hen that i thought had much bigger legs than the other girls but it was just her breeding. Hope that helps a little more.
