What eats it way out of a live cage trap? Pic

This trap was ruined because as seen in the picture it has seen better days, it is badly corroded around the bottom, it looks like it contains some wet muddy grass or something which will speed up the rusting problems, I have trapped many coon in these box traps and they work fine, a coon on its own is not strong enough to tear apart a trap that is in good condition. The dog proof trap suggested in another response works well too but it isn't exactly a pain free approach if that is what you are going for, those traps allow the coon to stick it's hand in the little hole then they snap shut on its hand/wrist, much like a leg hold trap used on fur bearing critters by trappers the only difference is it won't catch dog type animals because they actually have to stick their hand in rather than just stepping into the jaws. These aren't fool proof either as more than one coon left in the trap too long has chewed or ripped off it's own leg to get free.

I agree with everyone-coon. Use a metal coat hanger or some other strudy wire to fix trap. One mile is not far enough to relocate anything. Relocation of any animal is setting them up for a worse death in most cases.

Why not use the Duke Dog Proof Coon Trap instead? Check out the video.

Have you even used these with the same success as the guys in the video? I have seen traps like this before but have never known anyone who could give me a first hand review. I have also seen the use of tree snares?? I dont know if that is what they are called but you mount them on an overhanging limb and then as they walk through to get bait it tightens thus holding them until you can dispose of them.

Also, I agree with the TSC traps. They are cheap/disposable. We used them for cats so didn't need anything sturdy but one coon and it was toast.

I had a coon do the same thing to one of my older live traps.
A snare is not effective on coons.
I have used them on Coyotes,Hares,Fox, but never caught a coon.
If you have chickens there will be predators.
A .22 is your best bet for coon elimination, a good dog will do wonders.

Foxes are hard to catch and easy to hold.
Coons are easy to catch and hard to hold.
Those Dog proof traps work good.Shove a marshmellow in the bottom.

Everything we trap is shot afterwards since we are lacking a good dog. My grandfather raised blue tick coon hounds for many years and now my uncles raise them. They are amazing animals.
