What else lives with your chickens?

It's big enough, got a shelf for a flat screen and could hang a hammock.

Really wanted EEs and some Leghorns and a couple of BCMs if I could find them close by. But alas my dreams were dashed. Got next year all planned out, "you know the older girls are slowing down now and we should plan on updating the flock" well that's what I am going with.

Sounds good too me!!! I do think it is true every few years more chickens are required. As they age they do slow down on egg production! It would HORRIBLE to run out of eggs!!!!

That is my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

Thanks for all the respones! Im deff into the turkey idea, but our coop will NOT fit a turkey.....what sort of accomodations do they require???? Is it bad if I just mix the high protien feed and chicken feed together? Where do peafowl preffer to sleep? In a coop? I think I need to make a trip to the library! LOL

We have decided to wait on the pig until I have established my chicken routine, so maybe next spring.

Oh my goodness! never ever mix chickens and turkeys! turkeys can contract a disease tha does not hurt or show symptoms in the turkeys at all. what will happen is it will kill you entire flock and any chicks or chickens that you get for the next 7years because the turkeys shedded skin cells contaminate the dirt. i am not joking on this at all. my freind this happened to her and it killed all the chickens. the vet told her all about it when she brought it her dead chickens for an autopsy.

dont risk it.
besides that whole thing. i keep horses, goats, peacocks, guinies, and geese with my chickens. well more of free range over 10 ac. and they just all mix together.
I've got a pair of turkey in with the chickens now. I've had a pygmy goat and pot bellied pigs in with them in the past with no problems. My dog and cats live peacefully alongside them as well

peacocks will coop but they get aggressive because they really need a large area. they also are very aggressive when they get near food and will kick or hurt chickens when feed together. peacocks also love to roost. the higher the better. on sleeping. they get almost to the top of my 80foot trees when they are about to go to sleep. geese do great with chickens if you dont have a large coop and want something other than chickens

All great advice, i have heard very conflicting info on keeping Turkeys together with chickens. I dont know, I suppose its better to be safe than sorry, and I will proably build them thier own area if I get some Turkeys and/or Peafowl.

Geese you say???? All geese I have met are nasty.....is this true of all geese?

no my geese are the biggest loves ever. get them from babies and hold them often and they will love you like no other. A bug plus if you do have a veggie garden they will leave your mature plants alone and only eat the weeds coming up! research on your geese breed some are more docile than others.

I keep my geese separate from the chickens because they poop SO much!!! I thought chickens pooped a lot, but they are NOTHING compared to the geese LOL. and it doesn't just drop, it kind of shoots out straight behind them

I've had sheep, cows, dogs and cats with my chickens and they all lived harmoniously. One of the chickens liked to perch and sleep on my sheep's back, especially in the winter. Can't beat wool for warmth on the tootsies!
