What exactly IS that "scared chicken dance" they do? LOL

One of my chickens, Roadrunner, does it everytime our lab Lil Spanky walk by her. Spanky always stops and touches her back with her nose, then looks at me as if to say, "What, is there something wrong with this goofy bird?!" One time, I had stooped to pat one of the 'dancers' and Spanky had seen me. The next time Roadrunner squatted for her, Spanky actually put her paw on Roadrunners back. I really watched that closely, wasn't sure just what the darned dog was gonna do, but she didn't claw or push, just kind of laid her paw there for a few seconds and then just walked away. Roadrunner still follows Spanky around and squats for her. Strange animals.

I have a couple of hens that do that....they recognise I am the flock mistress and are bowing down to my greatness! LOL

But honestly it is fear.........they are then OK when I pick them up for a cuddle, but they still do it the next day...

Chickie does it to me when he is not doing the dom roo dance at me. I think it is his way of telling me that I get to be head roo for that moment. I take it as a sign of submission from him.

I love it when my Buffy does the dance!! She is sooo cute! Recently one of the other girls started- Barbie. I think they are submitting. I always stop and pet them- a scritch under the wing or on the neck- they immediately stop dancing and lean in for more!
My Teri wont dance at all. She is so darn hard to catch, too, the independant little booger.
