This world is not my home.
What features do you most wish your small coop had and does not currently have? I've listed a few things I would place in a coop for that many birds, can you think of anything else that would be desirable?

  • Easy mobility in order to provide fresh grass in the run
  • Attached and sheltered run
  • Predator proof
  • Adequate roosting
  • Easy clean out features
  • Manure board or wire under the roosts or both
  • Adequate square footage
  • Easy to fill feeders that do not take up floor space
  • Clean water delivery that is easy to manage and does not take up floor or run space
  • Easy access to inside of coop
  • Easy to clean and manage nests
  • Roll away nests
  • Insulated
  • Well-ventilated
  • Built in dusting area in a sheltered space
  • Window features that can be opened for more air flow in summer months or warm climates
  • Feature that can easily isolate a broody from the rest of the flock but still provide visual contact .

I'm going to build one but somethings on the list I will not use due to location like the insulation. Think I will plan for 6 and see how it turns out.

I'm still in the process of building my coop and run for my chickens. I'll have a small group of 4 chickens.

Here in Colorado, -20 degrees at night is not uncommon during the winter months of December & January. I included a thermostat that controls heat lamps in the coop. I'll be able to maintain a temperature of 55 degrees in the coop during the winter months; for the comfort of the chickens.

Here's the link to my Chicken Coop Project thread if you would like to see what I've completed.
