Hi there, I have a female duck 3 years that has an eye issue. I’ve been flushing her eye with chamomile and using 2 drops of colloidal silver 1x per day (I need help and can only get it 1x) for the past week. It has improved slightly but not as much as I’d hope. I’m not sure if a polysporin eye drops are safe (I know ointment on a wound is not). Does anyone know or have other treatment options? I’ve been treating her neck with tallow infused calendula castor oil. I can see some new feathers coming in :) One of my males jumped the fence and over mounted her (I’ve since fixed this so it does not happen again)

Your duck needs terramycin or tetracycline eye ointment on that wound. You are mistaken saying not ointment on a wound. Personally, I would be flushing the eye with salt water. You can dissolve 1tsp (5ml) salt in a cup (250ml) of previously boiled and cooled water. You can use either cotton swabs or squares of clean old cotton fabric such as teeshirt fabric to wipe the wound

Do you know if those medicines are available at the pet store? I’m in Canada and it’s almost impossible to get most medications without seeing a vet.

I thought the pain medicine in like a triple ointment was bad for their hearts?

I’ll try the salt flush tonight!

Those are generic names not brand names. In Britain and the US they are over the counter meds for human eyes

I’ll go to the pharmacy and see if it’s available.
I did a search and there were like 3 places I could find that sell it however the delivery is a 3 week minimum and the medicine (and shipping) is at least $50 CAD and up

Mu goodness that is wild. $5 in the US. I don't know UK price. Even the capsules shouldn't be that expensive.

Right?? If I remember correctly one of the reasons why they “banned” the medicine without a vet is they didn’t want people to just give the medicine blindly. The overwhelming majority of folks that have animals do their research before administering any type of treatment. It’s ridiculous 🤦‍♀️

I just checked out on line and I am shocked. Can you add at a pharmacy if they have it for someone who has a stye in their eye? I buy the human preparation in the US for my ducks.

I thought we paid way to much for drugs and folks bought from Canada pharmacy on line as much cheaper. I don't know what is going on with this ointment in Canada
