I know everyone uses different feeds for there Ducks. I just wanted to hear what you use. I use Dumor 16% Poultry Layer crumbles as the main feed. I also during the winter throw out cracked corn. For treats I use dried meal worms from my grocery store and frozen peas.

I use Blue Seal Organic Layer pellets, and supplement with flax meal and occasionally cat kibble as well as sprouted wheat seeds.

I have a couple of ducks who don't seem to get or use enough calcium and have shell-less eggs, so I give them a special treat most evenings - a couple of tablespoons of peas with a generous quarter teaspoon of 23% calcium gluconate mashed into the peas.

Cool thank-you for sharing!

Glad I saw this! Ive been looking all over for LEGIT organic DUCK feed and no one has it nearby---so I settled and purchased Kent today just because thats what my local feed store carries, I also bought Purina chick feed a week or so ago but wasnt to excited about the protein %.... protein in this Kent is 27%! Im a newby, cant remember when I need to lower their protein % I know to start high and then lower it over time....

Im going to piggy back and ask what some of your favorite "treats/greens/everyday add ons" are for your new ducklings? Mine arrived today and I want to start incorporating a more well balanced diet for them while in the brooder.

My girls love dandelion leaves and clover. I'm quite happy to pick those out of my grass and feed them to them.

Mine are only 6 weeks old and they are my first ducks.
So far we have tried.

Bananas - Would not even taste them.
Apples - loved them
pear - loved it
lettuce - loved it
grass - loved it
spinach - loved it
plain cooked oatmeal - meh, they ate some of it
cooked oatmeal with shredded apples - loved it

I have been using Purina Layena ($16.99 @ TSC) crumbles then pellets for my ducks and ducklings. I didn't realize that apparently it is intended for egg production. My one adult female began laying eggs a few weeks ago and gives me one every morning. This is above average for the Cayuga Breed from what I can tell. Once the entire flock is full sized, I'm going to try plain corn ($9.99 for 50lbs.) Otherwise, they spend the day foraging anyway. I have some mint that took over an untended herb garden. I'll pick the leaves and throw it in the pool, they seem to like it and probably gives them fresh breath!

I just wanted to warn you about throwing any plants into their pools, if left there for too long it can create botulism and the ducks will get ill or die. We used to do a similar thing until one of our drakes was found nearly dead and laying stiff in the water. We believe he became paralyzed from the infected water. I do not know your set-up, but we had a big water tank which we used as their pool. It was emptied probably weekly depending on how often it was being used since they had other buckets and swimming pans for play and drinking. This was the only thing we could find and since we eliminated the big tank and no longer give treats in the water we have not had any problems occur. Please be leery of treats in pools which are too big to dump regularly.
