We are just about to build our chicken run -- I've read here that the preferred material is 1/2" hardware cloth -- is 19 gauge sufficient, or is 16 gauge what's needed -- there's quite a difference in price! Thanks so much to everyone for such great advice so far. Our 7 chicks are getting so big so fast! The coop build started today -- I don't know how to post pictures yet, but when I figure that out, I'll post some of the coop.

can't post pictures until you've been on here a little more.

most people say 19 g is sufficient. i think I have 20, as it was all I could find. but it's over standard chicken wire, so hopefully the 2 layers of thinner wire will be sufficient.

We have 19 gauge over chain link fence, seems to work well. We also secure our birds up @ night just to make sure......
