What Gender and Age is my Parakeet?

I got a parakeet a few days back, and they didn't have much information on the birds gender or age, would any of you guys have a good guess at this? Here's a picture of them. (I'm thinking it's a girl.)

Girls have brown nostrils, boys have blue. Young birds have blue. So if it doesn't change to brown as it gets older, you have a boy because it's nostrils are blue.
 
Oh, so the parakeets not that old? I heard that younger parakeets have stripes above there eyes. But she just has grey markings.

I'm actually pretty embarrassed because I named what I assumed to be a girl, "Pearl."

I have no idea how to tell boy parakeets from girl parakeets, but you can always post its pic on our Caged Birds section on the Forum (under Other Backyard Poultry) and let our experts there take a look at it for you. :eek:)
 
When I was a kid, info was that the stripes above the cere meant a young bird - if it was solid color it was mature. I read about that because I wanted a parakeet like my friend's bird but mama said NO.
