What gender and breed - maybe Plymouth Rock?

Lovely. Thank you all :) we can’t keep rooster where we live so will try to rehome.

May we have a close up of the saddle? Its barring is a little different. It's closer together than BR cockerels, even though it's lighter in color. I wouldn't be surprised if its a mix. I've seen pullets that look like this also. I don't see any male specific feathering, but it's hard to see.

Sure I can try. I assume the saddle is across the back?

thank you! Can i ask what you looked for? so i know for learning.
I've had roosters and hen Plymouth rocks. What you look for is the stripes (barring) if the grey and black stripes are the same size/width = boy. It gives an overall impression of being more grey in colour.
If the black barring is wider than the grey barring = girl. It gives the overall impression of being blacker in colour.
You also look at the size and colour of the legs. Boys have much bigger legs that are yellow in colour. Girls have smaller legs that are more flesh coloured.

That is correct, however this bird is too young to have male specific feathering. He doesn't look like he's gone through his first molt, given how small his comb is. I fully agree, that this is a BR Cockerel, and with outstanding color.

OP, these three pics may help you. Keeping in mind, he appears too young for the saddle feathers... but the other two pics are specific to barring. Note the difference in the two feathered birds in the last pic.

This is so informative. Thank you so much for all this information. I really hope I can find a home for this guy.
