What Gender and Color is my Quail?

Now that definitely is interesting! Thank you for that. They really look like my mystery chick. These are my two little guys:

Cute. Looks like the one in the middle might be a Tuxedo too. I have one that had similar yellow markings on the face and now has a cute little penguin face.

This is what she looked like as a peep

Aww, I missed that! She was so cute!

After all my umming and ahhing and looking at pictures, mine has turned out to be a tibetan! And a very pretty one too :)

I'm told by a prominent breeder that the dolor name is "Fawn", and is achieved by crossing pharaoh to golden. 25% of their eggs will throw this color. They can be feather-sexed like golden and pharaoh, Here are pix of my 3 week old male. I have one hen and one roo from the last hatch.

I've had a few Tibetans, they are beautiful birds.
Also, I'm glad to know what a rooster looks like too. I didn't know you could make them by crossing golden, I'll keep that in mind.

eHuman, do you know if it has to be the pure gold or would it happens with pharoah to italian? I have four italian hens and could easily get hold of a pharoah roo if it would work with them.

Considering that genetically pure golden are not available in the US, even in research facilities, I think borrowing a Pharaoh roo will work fine. Keep your girls away from any other roo for at least 2 weeks to, errr, get rid of any unwanted DNA. Do not collect eggs to hatch until the roo has been with them for a week from the time you know he's taking care of business. (Sometimes that will be first 5 seconds in the cage, sometimes a few days). Collect for 10 days and set. You will get golden, pharaoh, and fawn from hatch.
