I received a blue Cochinpullet from my pet chicken she is now 1 week old she is not calm and gentle as much as I expected and hope for this is why I'm wondering if she's a rooster she also I think does not have a very big tail and wings witch I've heard that means they might be a rooster I have done a lot of petting her in training her spending time with her to try the calm her down she did get pets on the other day by one of the other hens and it seemed to Humble her so I'm glad she's a lot calmer now some of these pictures are when she was about 2 days old and all through this week and today

1. She's too young for anyone here to definitively sex.

2. Roosters are far more likely to be friendly than hens are, at least until they reach puberty.

3. Unlike hens, Roosters carry two copies of the "K" gene, which determines how quickly they get feathers (hens carry only one).

There are two different versions of the K gene, fast feathering and slow feathering. Cochins are a slow-feathering breed, which means that the rooster carries two copies of the slow-feathering gene. Because they carry two copies, they are actually slower-feathering than hens are. So a cochin chick with longer feathers is actually more likely to be a hen.

With a breed like leghorns, where the chickens are fast-feathering, a rooster has two copies of the fast feathering gene, and so is likely to feather out faster than a hen (who carries only one copy of the fast-feathering gene) is.

All in all, I suspect she's a pullet. When she gets a bit older, you could try to calm her down and make her friendlier with treats. The way to a chicken's heart is through her stomach.

My blue Cochin is getting bigger she is now getting very dark pink Waddles on the sides of her face her tail is growing out at the beginning when I first got her she had no tail at all and very short wings she is a lot friendlier now than she was if she's a boy I'm calling her fancy pants and if she's a girl I'm calling her Bella thank you what do you think now
