What's a saddle feather? I'd love to be able to sex them on my own!
If you look at the picture on BYC's home page there's a dutch gold roo. Notice the cascade of *pointy* yellow feathers at the base of his tail and along up his back? Those are saddle feathers and so called because they traverse a rooster's back as if a saddle were placed on him. ("Ride 'em, Cowboy!") Hens do not have those. They have nice rounded feathers like the rest of their body.
